Binding sustainability targets
With its Impact Report, HELM invites readers to learn about the origins of its future strategy, “HELM 2030,” and documents its initial progress. The company outlines its vision and the measures it has already taken to achieve it: smart business practices, resource-efficient solutions, the advancement of women, and socially responsible engagement. HELM is focusing on three key global challenges: Climate change, preserving biodiversity, and combating social inequality. HELM aims to reduce product-related CO2 emissions by 20% per ton and an overall reduction of 42% in its own emissions by 2030.
Kilian Funke, Vice President Corporate Strategy & Sustainability, explains: “Collaborating with partners who share our values and goals is crucial for our global trading business, product development, and production. Our Impact Report is therefore also an invitation to all new and existing partners to join us in the transformation to more sustainable business.”
In addition to its climate targets, HELM aims to achieve a 35% quota of women in management positions and cooperates with the children's rights organization PLAN International Germany in the area of promoting girls and women. Young farmers in Rwanda have already been supported and further projects for children in disadvantaged regions are planned. As part of its social responsibility, the company is investing in environmental, educational, and social projects worldwide through Social Days.
Investing for tomorrow today, by offering long-term solutions
In cooperation with international partners, HELM is continuously investing in future technologies that promote green change in the industry. Two examples: QIRA® is a product developed by HELM and the US company Cargill. The bio-based BDO represents a genuine alternative to conventional, fossil-based BDO. This platform chemical is used in numerous consumer goods.
Furthermore HELM is cooperating with the German-Danish scale-up Again in the distribution of bio-based acetic acid. Again has developed a unique process in which bacteria convert CO2 waste into biochemicals through a fermentation process. Solutions such as these support decarbonization and expand HELM's product portfolio in a future-oriented manner.
Making responsibility measurable: transparency and standards
The HELM Impact Report was prepared in accordance with recognized international standards to ensure maximum comparability and clear orientation alongside other sustainability reports. It is based on a double materiality analysis. HELM takes into account both established frameworks for environmental and social data and new EU requirements that are currently set to become binding for companies in the future.
The company aims to report annually in the future and to further expand the collection and transparency of sustainability data. With its first report, HELM underscores its commitment to measurable environmental goals, social responsibility, and forward-looking corporate governance.
