ORISIL is a synthetic, hydrophilic or hydrophobic, amorphous silicon dioxide produced by flame hydrolysis with a surface of 120 to 380 m²/g. The specific BET surface is the defining characteristic of ORISIL and its various types. The product range marketed by HELM comprises the hydrophilic types ORISIL 200, 300 and 380, and the hydrophobic types ORISIL M130, M200 and M300. All types can be supplied densed and undensed. ORISIL has a shelf life of at least one year from the date of production. Like other amorphous silicon dioxides, ORISIL has neither carcinogenic nor mutagenic effects.

Examples of applications

ORISIL is used as a thickening and thixotropic agent in many organic systems such as unsaturated polyester resins, paints, printing inks and adhesives. It also serves as a reinforcing filler in elastomers, and silicone elastomers in particular. ORISIL is also used as an anti-caking agent, or flow enhancer, in the production of technical powders.
